It's probably supposed to be solid, but I haven't checked it by exporting a working mesh to .obj.

What's the poly count on it? It looks like it might be a bit too high. The other finished backgrounds are aiming for ~40k polys. Anything more will cause slowdowns on less powerful systems.

At me a computer with the processor (AMD athlon XP 1800+) And video ( GeForce 5500) and I have not noticed any brakes!
The unique minus is the size (5 mbyte HOD) :)

That indicates that it has too many polys. You can check it if you open it in CFHodEd and click on the preview button on the last tab.

Apart from that, it does look very nice. My experience tells me though that if it is detailed enough that you can see individual pixels like that, it uses too many polys.

but man he has gf 5500 and athlon xp 1800 thas is very very low end and he doesn't have nay lag as he says. so why can't this be in?

Because the problem is not the background only. We want to keep polycount in those limits because of maps with many ships. Perhaps it's ok in the beginning of a game, but when the number of ships are increasing, it will become a problem. That's my humble opinion, but if other team members can give their thought on this ?
