He was nominated, it means that a member of the swedish parliament thought he would make a good candidate for the prize. Granted, he was nominated several times for the peace prize and for literature as well, but keep in mind that Hitler was nominated for the Nobel peace prize in 1939 (!) and the Blair-Bush duo was nominated in 2004 by a far right member of the swedish parliament.

Nomination carries much less weight than actually receiving a nobel prize.

But wether his work has helped or not, I think that the more important question is his motivation to do so, was it because he actually felt he did wrong or because there was a chance he would escape the death penalty by doing so. And I don't think we can get a clear answer to that question.

what justice does death give it only gives us revenge, what is just about killing?......should we then become the judge and killer our self’s ,what justice would we get, this man killed four people and probably maybe more he did not get caught for ,he also was involved in numerous other crimes.

So we kill him.....why? How does committing a crime bring justice and resolution to another crime, does it not just add to it rather than some how cancel it out.

What debt is he repaying to society? None we have kept at our expense, and now we will kill him in a feudalistic stupor, his death will lessen us all; no matter what his crime no matter whether he is remorseful.

People play on his writing's and current ideology, it is easy to be reflective and be composed when you’re removed from some thing, but it is a different matter when you are part of it.

Criminals never repay their debt in prison as that is not a prison designation it is a penal institution, the term correctional facility needs correction in itself, the only true way is not to punish, but to make the individual repay his debt to society is to make him a servant of it and make them spend their life among us repaying their debt daily so all can see justice done and not have it murdered by our own hand.
what i mean is

Criminals who take life, murders, serial killers should be offered a stark choice, as they have deprived other humans of their human rights, society should remove theirs until they earn them back, I often wonder how when you see these long term prisoners, they play pool, they watch t.v, they have friends, they laugh, they paint, they have congical visits, they write books, they procrastinate about their own rebirth and revival whether through religion or reason, but they’re victims never will…. I mean do any of the above.

More astoundingly we pay for this, society as a whole pay’s from the minute the crime is committed not only fiscally but morally and emotionally as well, and the cost to society is the degradation of human rights by taking revenge through the guise of law this is little more than public beheading by terrorists else where in the world, fear is meant to be the statement of this murder, a weapon in the fight against crime, just like the public beheadings this death would be pointless and lowers the human species to a place I will not follow.

Politicians would say that the criminals would just refuse tough regimes and riots!!...how will we make them leave their comfortable cells and cellmates for a hard day work in the community,. Crimes like these should be punishable by the removal of the criminals from any part of society even the criminal aspect ,

Solitary confinement , no TV , no books , no radio, no visits, nothing just a basic cell with shower and toilet their food should be taken to them in their cells , and they should have no contact with anyone and they should be confined to their cell at all times, now this is where they should start from and if they wish any of rights of things that normal society has ,they will have to earn them and not just once for ever.

You may argue but that entails removing their human rights …but injecting them with poison is not ? again we live in a extremely odd world indeed.

So we kill him... why? Maybe it's some form of the utility principle, maybe we just feel better seeing these people meet the fate that they dished out to others? And the emotional case is much stronger for those closer to the original incident.

Maybe it's a cost-effective practicality? Maybe it's just easier for us to gas/shoot/inject those guilty of the most heinous of crimes, rather than stumping up funds to feed them for the rest of their lives?

I'm playing devil's advocate here; I'm not sure I necessarily care enough about this case to lodge an honest, personal, view.

Generally, I agree with Sol, in the essence that convicted prisoners should be made to contribute towards the society they have wronged - but I don't think this should, necessarily, preclude the idea of a death sentence.
