It is near impossible to make a sphere, add a transparent texture, and then make an effect like this one or the one posted above. Not only are they sub par quality, but they also suffer from exactly the same problems that mine, EJ's and starfleets attempts to make an atmosphere do. Clipping. the zBuffer is just not accurate enough to do effects like that in the way thats currently possible.

In other words, its just not practical to have full planets in game space. Now, having hemi-sphere with atmospheres similar to the one above out in the bg is a different story, because of the lack of polies behind the effect and the relatively little moving the atmosphere would undergo, you'd have a fairly decent planet with atmosphere.

The only way I can get the effect is due to the fact that there is a nebula in the middle of the planet in the map but when I remove it, the effect does not happen. :(
