I've been thinking about HW2: SW vs. ST, you see, I've been thinking of creating a StarWars MOD, one with no 'Motherships'. I never liked that idea anyway. [img]smile.gif[/img] Rather than a 'Mothership' each race would have a 'commandship' a ship that is unbuildable. for example, the ISD mkII for the Imps, Home-One for the Rebels. The commandship would 'build' units, not exactly. This means that adding in a few StarTrek races would be pretty easy. The Federation would have the Soverign as a commandship, the Borg a Cube, etc...

So, "What about the ships?" you say. "Were do they come from?" Easy: Hyperspace or warp for StarTrek. [img]smile.gif[/img] Of course smaller ships would need to be built, some don't have Hyperdrives or Warp Cores. Easy to fix: Factory Stations. Stations that once captured give you the ability to build certain ships/fighters. Maybe even special factories that can build only one special type of ship, like a Shipyard for the Defiant, or.... Or.... Hmm, what's a Special, none uber StarWras ship?

Anyway, you get the idea.

Resources would come from two sources: Trading Stations and Command Platforms. Oh, and Minning Stations that's three. [img]smile.gif[/img]
For Trading Stations, you'd only have to get a certain type of ship within a certain range and you'd get back resources depending on the number ships. Command Platforms and Minning Stations you'd have to capture. The Platforms would probebly have subsytems for construction, and special weapons, but I have decided on that yet.

Of course, for most of this stuff I've been thinking StarWars, but now that I'm thinking StarTrek, I think it could work pretty well for them to.

What do you all think? It is easily doable, I already have all the scripts done, there are just no decent tools yet, and I've sorta lost the modeling/texturing bug. [img]smile.gif[/img] I'd love some comments/suggestions on this type of gameplay.
Any ideas to make it better would be great to.

That would be cool, and if the hyper-space in thing for the shipyard could be applied to all the ships, then it should also be workable.

Capturing special building for the ability to make special ships? Awesome! Would every race build the same ship from these platforms, or would each race get its own special ship.

Is the Wild Karrade a non-uber ship?

The resource ideas are cool too. It looks like HW2 mods will be much more interesting than HW1.

It would depend. For example: A Shipyard for the Defiant. Realisticly, it could only build Defiants regardless who controls it. On the other hand, seeing an Imperial fleet, with a bunch of Federation Defiants would be a little... Well, a little strange. [img]smile.gif[/img] Still, it would be interesting. Being able to build another races ships.

Of course there would be other Factories, all purpose factories, like Fighter Production. You'd only be able to build your races fighters. No matter what.

Oh, and the Wild Karade is a one of a kind ship and it's not uber, but why would you want one in your fleet. :D It could be a special Trade ship I guess. Gives a bunch more resources than regular Freighters? Armed to, so it could escort others.

Couple of things to think about. Excellent, this is what I'm looking for, feedback and ideas. [img]smile.gif[/img]

For the Romulus mod I had the idea of the "Hero" ship, or ship's similar to captain sobans ship, but larger (like an Excelsior II/Galaxy/Soveriegn depending on era, or an ISD), and if its destroyed the game is over. (basicly your command ship idea). See the "Romulus" thread for more detail.

I also agree with Z, and see no point in having any motherships. I think we can pull off beliveable mods with warp/hyperspace in re-enforcements, stationary bases, and shipyards
