Insectoid, you quote science fiction to make a point, and you missed what I was saying. The feminine is used to show affection, many real captains use the feminine but a ship is an inanimate object (and that you cannot argue) and should be treated as such.

Nickersom, I perfectly understand that, you are missing my point entirely (or refusing to see it...). Just read my above posts.
But to make things clear, even if ships are referred to as female it is a nonsensical affectionate term and physically referring them as "netural" (unless they have a sex or are alive) makes more sense. But since that is not enough for you lets take the following example:

Saying "Oh look at my Hapan Battle Dragon, she just got hit!" puts you in the SW nerd category. Solo can do that because it's actually his ship and expresses his attachment, he has a reason to use the femminine. In fact the use of the femminine for ships has evolved from this catpain-ship relationship.

You are just being stuckup in your ideas, I am not contradicting what the dictionary says (as it is considered femminine) but saying how it should be. But enough re-explaining the same thing, if you don't understand well... too bad.

Zeelich, any plans on bringing in the nova into the mod?

I remember the all white one. That was a looooong time ago. This one will be much better.

Yep, the Nova will be in the MOD soon. I want to get the My'till and Hetrina done first.

In english ships are refered to as feminine. Thats the way it is, no matter what way you think it should be.

Nice ship Z, but 6k? Where did they go?

I never said the opposite, from the start I've been trying to tell them how I think they should be referred to as neutral. This is not something that can be argued.

But enough repeating myself...

Z does this mean we are nearing (well "nearing" in the large sense it has here) a second patch?

There are a lot of polys in both the saucers, but the turrets around the rims, and the mine launchers in the center are probebly the worst offenders. I'm hoping to replicate the rotation of the ring/turrets like in the books. However, I've yet to test it so I don't know if it'll work.

As for a new Patch. That depends really. Before the new Patch can be released I need to get done a few things. Such as a new Rebel Researchship, fix the smoothing on the Shuttle, add the Delta DX-9 as a Minelayer (Which also means making a new Mine), and I still need to fix up the SP missions so they're playable. Now, with SP the biggest problem is getting the meshes I want done, done. I can release texture/map updates later. So that won't slow the release.

Of course, before the next SWNR patch, there will be a new SW:I release. In fact, I only need to fix up the lighting on the SOA ships and I think I can make a release. A day or two at most!

Nice model.

Just wondering, though: is there any concerted effort with SW Warlords (Evillejedi's mod for HW2) ?

Anyway... real purpose for me being here is the ongoing flame, can't stay out of it (j/k). :D

For your info: whether ships are feminine or masculine also depends on the language.

In French, it's "le bateau", "le navire", "le vaisseau" (all masculine). But when we come to more precise type, we have "la corvette", "la frégate" (feminine)... and also "le croiseur", "le cuirassé", "le porte-avions" (masculine). Destroyers are masculine, too. On a more civilian line, it's "le paquebot", "le pétrolier", and so on... but "la vedette".

In German, it's usually neutral ("das Schiff", "das Boot"). And since more specialised names will be compounds of "Schiff" or "Boot", it'll stay neutral.

And, yes, I know that in English, non-animated machines should be neutral, but ships are obviously an exception - although I think it's often contextual too. Anyway, what makes a language is the exceptions, not the pure logics. Hell, if language was always logical, it'd be damn too easy to learn.

And on the nerd side: well, if you play a game and a vessel becomes crucial to your strategy, it may as well win some more subjective value to your eyes, thus entitling you to call it "she".

Note that personally, I'd use "it" in nearly every occasion, but first I'm no native speaker, second I think that on a pure technical point of view, "it" is acceptable (but not obligatory). In fact, I may use "she" for my ships (I don't have any, though...), and I keep the "it" for any other ship.
