Farscape Series 5 info - spoilers

I'll keep this topic sticky since its pretty important to the mod.

I just found info that the new mini series which will air in the autumn, starts with a massive effects sequence showing the start of the Peackeeper/Scarran war which should be uber cool.
Also, there is a new baddie PK commander who will be introduced, and a new alien race that work for the Peacekeepers.

This next one's speculation. Animal Logic - the company that does the farscape FX - bought MASSIVE recently, which is the program or whatever that lord of the rings used to do ground battles. It works by giving models extremely rudimentary AI, they seek out and attack one of the enemy etc. Anyway, Animal Logic bought it, so there is a possibility of a PK/Scarran ground battle.

I'll post updates as I find them. Anybody else who finds anything out, please do so too [img]smile.gif[/img]

wont be much of a battle tho since peacekeeper weapons just seem to bounce off scarrens

They'll probably pull out heavy weapons or something, and anyway there's the Scarren pleb races to kill with pulse weapons. In all probability the Scarrens themselves aren't all that commen, or something ;)

all i can say no matter where they fight unless PK have some new super weopons they will lose. Scarrens are far stronger than PK and they out number :eek: PK 10 to 1. :eek:

Surely MASSIVE can be transformed from a ground combat simulation into a space one? Add another dimension allow the characters to go any direction, transform Elves and Trolls into spaceships and there we go... ;)

Probably, but theres not much point. Spaceship animation is a hell of a lot easier than character because of the lack of moving parts, or as many moving parts anyway.
If you think of it, for a space battle you only need to move objects around, do a few effects and mess around with lights, for a ground army theyve all got to move realistically which is tonnes of work in the first place and then you would have to plan out loads of different moves between just two fighting characters, in a battle sequence unless everybody is doing exactly the same move that would take forever.

It would be nice to just put a bunch of fighters in and have them fly around by themselves, instead of having to manually give them paths.

I also disagree with the "extremely rudimentary AI" comment. From what I've seen, the state diagram for the AI has hundreds of nodes and links. I think "extremely rudimentary AI" is more like Warcraft 2.

The first trailer for the miniseries will be shown on the US sci-fi channel tonight, at some point in the premiere of the new stargate series. So keep an eye out for that one! And post in here what's shown if nobody else does :D
