This model is based off a design concept model for ST:Phase II. It obviously was never used, but they did make a study model of the design which found its way into ST:III TSFS (spacedock entry scene), and the TNG episode "best of both worlds" (wolf 359 wreckage). It was in another i belive just dont remember which

The Mcquarrie study model while similar in design is not the same as the ship we are doing here. I wanted to make this ship look "older" than the Phase 2 study model. Hence the change in the saucer, and nacelles to TOS style.

This particular ship Pre-dates the Constitution, and was built roughly around the same time the Detroyat class was. Both the Detroyat, and Mcquarrie were used as testbeds for technology to be used in the Constitution class, and have seen many upgrades from the time they were built till the current timeframe of the mod. Not many Mcquarrie class's were built due to its much lower than expected combat preformance (will be simulated by a unit limit of just 1 ship). However she does have a Huge shuttlebay for a ship its size making her the perfect choice in the role of escort carrier (support frigate minus the repair beam) Firepower is slightly less than a Saladin class destroyers.

Just for the record, the McQuarrie study model actually predates Phase 2 by several years. McQuarrie's paintings, and the study models based on them, were actual made about 1975 for a VERY short-lived movie project called "Planet of the Titans." The idea was to shoot a quick, cheap movie over in England--a plan that would work a year or so later for a kid named George Lucas. :D

Of course, PotT went nowhere, as did the next seventeen or so ideas for Star Trek revivals, until finally the proposed "Phase 2" series became "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." Paramount did manage to get all their money for all these aborted ideas back, though, by adding ALL the money spent on ALL of them into the budget for TMP. Which, unfortunately, is only one of the many reasons that TMP's budget ballooned to a "Waterworld"-like (for the day) forty-four million dollars.

But, as Stress said, the 2 study models based on the McQuarrie paintings did manage to make their way into TSFS and "Unification" (in the Qualor II junkyard)--although he's way off on the BoBW thing...

Ok we are back, and the boards are up and running again. there are still glitches with the FTP's, so uploading new wip's will take a bit. just hold tight and well get back on track ASAP.
