Well, after getting sidetracked on something that I thought was going to be really cool and turned out to not work nearly as well as I thought, I'm back to actually working on stuff that can actually get released soon. Image

First, let me tell you some of what I've done. I have, as you may remember, switched the Federation to race_beast and the Cardassians to race_sect; these will, in all likelihood, be the only races included in the 0.2 release. 0.2 will also feature the first test running of the new unit capping system I've devised. No more building support modules now; the only source of support units are your mothership (providing 4000) and carriers (2000 each for a total of 8000). Ships' support unit costs are based on their crew size; for example, a Miranda has an SU cost of 200, a Galor 300, an Excelsior 500, etc. There are also a few ships (most notably the Ambassador and Keldon) with a specific numeric cap--you can only build one Ambassador, for example, no matter how many free SU's you have.

Thanks to Delphy and Pesmontis, TW 0.2 is shaping up to be fully Dynamic Vertex Lighting compatible. Image

One more thing before the screenshots--as you'll see in said shots, I've given up on the etg folder. With the exception of a couple of minor tweaks, the weapons effects are going to be standard Cataclysm. Bottom line, I just don't have the know-how to make a non-crashing Cataclysm ETG, it would seem... Image

Anyway, on to the screenies. Here we see a Saratoga-class starship firing one of its side-mounted phaser beams on a group of Hidekis:

(Yeah, I know it's a really a Miranda, but I needed a model to test with.)

The leader of a Hideki patrol wing opens fire seconds before his wingmen:

A Keldon-class dreadnought fires on a Federation ship as return fire barely misses it:

Leading an attack group, a Bakrus-class frigate fires its torpedoes:

Hmm, I wonder what that 'something' was....

Looks nifty.

And familiar, no doubt... Image

The "something" was an idea for the mothership and carrier that I've not completely given up on yet, but that I wasn't going to be able to release given that I don't have the models. It may yet see the light of day... Image

More Screenies!

Rare visual evidence of a little-known Cardassian battle strategy: two Galor-class cruisers will operate dangerously close in order to appear as only one vessel on sensor sweeps:

Resource operations, part 1--Groumal-class freighters harvest asteroids under the watchful eyes of a Trammion-class processor:

Resource operations, part 2--Groumals retreiving a large dilithium crystal:

Will post some Federation screenies as I work on refining that side...

Well, before I get to the Federation ships, just wanted to show off my cheezy race selection images:

Even venting plasma from its starboard nacelle and impulse engine, and atmosphere from its secondary hull, an Excelsior-class cruiser continues to press the attack:

No, BTFF (and TW 0.1, which used 95% the same ETG) had an intermittent crash, both in MP and at the end of SP missions, which we tracked to the ETG. The TW 0.2 ETG I was tinkering with wound up with the same thing. In BTFF it was only annoying, but in TW (which is going to wind up being MP only with the removal of infect weapons from the Beast side) it will make the game unplayable, and that's just not an option. So, until somebody who actually knows what they're doing takes an interest in Cataclysm ETG's, TW is going to use a very nearly stock ETG.

Although maybe it will be cooler if I just add more guns to all the ships:

Image

J/K, actually I've been meaning to add the extra phaser arrays to the Ambassador for some time, just haven't gotten around to it until now... Image
