Something you'll see in the next SOA

Post by Dasher42 » Wed Mar 28, 2007 7:28 pm

Our old fans here know the kind of ships we get into Homeworld, getting the most out of a shockingly low polygon count.

My part for the next release, in addition to revamped ship costs that let the AI come to life, will be to make the game more playable. You'll see consistently different and sensible tactics for evasive, neutral, and aggressive profiles. Rather than simply making ships maneuver faster or fire more powerful weapons - some of which is actually appropriate considering you might put full power to engines or weapons - you'll see different tactics.

The Defiant, for example, when attacking a target, will act markedly different. On evasive, it does dive-bombing passes and then puts distance between it and its target, dodging fire. On neutral, it dogfights like in the show, flipping and rolling and firing. On aggressive, it keeps its guns on its mark as much as it can, although this makes it easier for other ships to fire upon. It will get a little singed - but, "Not as singed as they're going to get." :)

This is going to be the most playable Sacrifice of Angels ever, the way it was meant to be, and there are better things to come!

Atomic batteries to power. Turbines to speed...

Sounds like this is picking up speed.

Guess it's time for me to see if Homeworld even installs right on Vista...

Wow, my account still exists! Awesome... Anyway, yes, it's shaping up to be quite a doozy.

Who's next? Elvis? Bigfoot? The real killers of Ron & Nicole?

I think I crossed universes and I'm in the mothership.

Jeez, all we need is Lord Vorkosigan, and we've got the old crew who hung out here back!

Sheesh, I'll have to dig out my old HW disc at some point.
