Some help for the FS2 mod!

Greetings,

As some might know, I've been fiddling with the original HW1 FS2 mod (not for HW2...I prefer the original I'm afraid). So far both the Terran side and the Shivan side are pretty much complete in terms of re-mexing, .shp's (total rebalancing and movement stat alterations), weapon layouts, a new weapons pack and nearly all the slots are filled. It seems to play quite a bit different to the original FS2 HW mod since pretty much every ship is now important. For example fighters have better movement capabilities, self repair and more varied weapon layouts while cap ships are slow and have no y-axis movement but they do have extreme large fleet combat abilities and AA flak cannons, etc. What I'm fiddling at the moment for the mod is to make it more like a testament to FS2 (almost like a FS3 game in fact). Fighters are far more important, especially for killing big ships (corvettes now play the part of heavy bombers that need fighter escorts) and other fighters, while cap ships bring the big guns to the battle. I don't want the whole screen filled with nearly hundreds of cap-ships since FS2 was not quite that chaotic...just nearly. Cap-ships have long building times and a very high price but are essential for tactical deployment, while fighters offer escort and support and corvettes (bombers) offer heavy bombing runs on cap-ships. I also wanted to make the cap-ships more tactical with their movements so now in most cases, if you want you're cap-ship of choice to do more damage and take less, you better be able to multi-task and move each cap-ship into advantageous positions. This is especially true in regards to destroyers and the heavy cruisers. At the moment the Shivans have the best cap-ships (much like the FS2 game really) while the Terrans have better fighters since they were the real heroes in the FS2 game. Seeing the corvette/bombers doing bombing runs on the larger ships is pretty cool while the fighters fend off other fighters and distract cap-ship flak turrets. Another things I've noticed so far is that its important to use the tactical overlay now and then, which gives the caps-lock key a bit more importance. As for calling it the HW1 FS2 mod I'm gonna call it 'Freespace Command'.

Anyway, as for the help part of this topic I need to know if anyone can give a working link or supply a download for the FS2 Vasudan ship mod for HW:Cataclysm. There are quite a few more Vasudan ships in that mod and I can't find it anywhere. If I can get my hands on it I can work on converting the P2 slot (the Kadesh) into the 'Vasudan rebels' while the P1 slot would be turned into the NTF. If anyone can let me know if they have the mod or can supply a workinf link, please let me know. I'm still needing the contact details of the original mod team although the rights of this mod may be more concerned with Interplay themselves since the models were extracted from their published game.

Oh Zeelich, since both main races are pretty much done I'll be sending over to you soon-ish. Do you have a prefered email address? Let me know if this is still ok with you by the way and even if its not, cheers for the offer ;)

My email is jason@themaw.net, however it might be better to upload the MOD somewhere and PM me a link.

I'm looking forward to messing around with this MOD, maybe even make some new weapons textures. If that is OK with you of course.

I might have a copy of that MOD on one of my many backup CD's, I'll have a look and get back to you.

Cheers guys and cheers captain pierce for the mod. Zeelich, when I send the mod over feel free to add any additional bits to the weapons pack, its a very lazy one after all since its just a re-hash of the DS weapon pack. If its ok I'll send the mod via your email since I haven't got an account. They usually bug me since they're full of adverts and spam anyway...not unless anyone knows of a good place to set up a download account? If I do send it via email though, I'll send it in compressed chunks to make it a bit more manageble. I may totally re-balance the mod all over since I recently found a table chart of all the freespace ships with all the proper FS2 stats...wish I knew that ealier. As it is though it seems quite balanced although I really think the Shivan ships may need some re-scaling, if you can help with this? At the moment the mod is balanced to how it work in HW and the scale of the ships but the Shivan vessels are larger or even smaller in some cases, than what they should be...the same probably true for the GTVA. What I might do is finish off the p-races first before sending it over since know doubt you'll need all the races filled with their textures to make the textures.ll work properly.

Zeelich or Captian Pierce, I don't suppose that either one of you (time and patience permitting) could do us the favour of perhaps altering the HW:C FS2 to work in HW1. It would seem it not as easy as I thought when in comes to converting the FS2 HW:C mod to work in HW1. I tried altering the peo meshes to work in HW1 but it keeps crashing. I'm sure it fairly simple so if neither of you can spare the time to help, perhaps someone could describe what I'm doing wrong. Simply renaming the geo/peo meshes of the FS2 HW:C mod doesn't do it so perhaps there's something else I need to do...let me know ;)

Mr Gloomy:) - I'll try to fiddle some more!

The Cataclysm .mex format is also different from the HW version, so you'd have to resave the .mexes as well... then, of course, a lot of the HW:C .mexes have extra information in them that could be causing problems, too...

Send that MOD over. I can't wait to start taking it apart. :D

Use HWSE to resave the .PEO and .MEX's to HW1's format, the texture should be fine.

I don't mind reascaling the ships, but you'll have to give me a list of what there proper sizes should be.
