Can I make a suggestion?

There's a VBB hack out there (the Relic boards use it) that only allows one signature per person per page... ;) might be worth a look... :)

Yeah, I'm aware of its existance - and it's a very simple hack to install (just one small line of code to change), so unless anyone comes forward with any strong objections over the next couple of days, I'll install it.

Is there one that allows only one sig image per thread, but leaves a small text sig still in there? I'm assuming a single sig is for space / download concerns?

I'm not sure it'd save much space on a thread though - look at the amount of text we have under our avatars - it has to be a long ish post before the sig gets bumped to lower than the text under that avatar...

Would it also be possible to turn off the "Show your signature" checkbox by default (at least in the quick reply)? I can find no preferences to set it, and it is annoying to have to uncheck it every time I post.

I agree with crook as it won't matter or make a difference.Why do we have to follow what the relic forums do?

Such a hack does not exist, unfortunately.

This is possible to accomplish. Shall I go ahead and do it? Can't see any strong objections, and it won't do any harm.

Where's the source for the one sig per thread? I'll write one to exclude text from sigs.........

For me, the issue isn't the space the sigs are taking up; that's always been moderated quite nicely here, unlike some other forums I go to. I just get tired of looking at the sigs over and over and over on a page (even my own :) ).

Not so easily done, I'm afraid. Quite a bit of coding would be involved to change that. At the moment, the one sig per page "hack" is handled by a simple conditional. Here is the original:

Code: Select all

<if condition="$post['signature']">
		<!-- sig -->
			<div>
				__________________

				$post[signature]
			</div>
		<!-- / sig -->
</if>

The opening conditional is changed to this:

Code: Select all

<if condition="$post['signature'] AND !$vboptions['shownsigs'][$post[userid]] AND $vboptions['shownsigs'][$post[userid]] = true">

If you want to talk more on ICQ about it, we might be able to figure it out - but I don't think you could do it by changing any of the above template code.

I remember back in the old dial-up days, when only the rich and famous had ISDN, having this discussion on the TGU - primarily around the time taken to download a thread's worth of sigs.

I don't think that's much of an issue these days, unless you're browsing on your mobile; but the space and repetition. Sure, why not? We've all got our pet hates, so why can't mine be seeing your stupid fucking sig sixty times a thread without you saying anything remotely worthwhile?

As far as pet hates go, I'm comfortable with it. So, yes, please switch the default - I'm even sick of my own sig.
