On the tube, the vid is pretty good. On my puter, most of the vids have a grainy look to them. Im coping though.

I found the quality pretty good, watch some of it on my 19 inch monitor in my room and others on my 37 inch TV down stairs, i don't remember really seeing any problem with the video.

Raingod, Im very glad you purchased a copy of the series. That makes 2 SAAB fans here at TGU that are going to enjoy the set for as long as we live.

What do you think of the quality of what you viewed of the discs so far?

I know I quietly mentioned that the quality of the video on my computer sucked. Cool thing is that PSP and Photoshop are coming in handy with doctoring up the screenies I Ive been taking. The screenies are being shot at 1024x768. After I doctor them up, I lower the size to 800x600 and are left with some decent quality shots. Here is one from 'Ray Butts' when he about to bite it in the Cerebus Black Hole.

Ill post more if anyone is interested.

I also pick it up recently, i was so happy when i saw it on the shelves at Future Shop but became extremly dissapointed when i saw there were no extras in the set. And for 50$ that pist me off alot.

But i think i would still of bought it anyway because the show was so awesome.

Damn. Almost forgot about posting stuff like that. Sorry. Getting them back on 8.5 GB discs is no problem. I have a stack of them sitting next to me. lol.

Heh, I'd actually heard about the B5 thing before, but forgot until you mentioned it.

After a good decade of Fox ignoring this show, right back to the time when they were actually airing it, what did you expect? I never even really liked the show all that much from what I saw--but even then, I could tell that Fox didn't really give a damn about it.

Re-authoring is going to be a bit of a trick, if only because you'll only get 2 episodes per disc rather than the four that studios usually do. And it won't only be because of that; not only do you have to figure out how to cram 8.5GB of material onto a 4.7GB DVD, but you have to de-encrypt the stuff as well... all in all, making a fully legal backup copy of any DVD that you've legally purchased is a pain in the ass...

I bought it. Viewed the first disc. Loved it. On TV.

Now, I viewed the episode "Sugardirt" on my computer. Disappointed is the least I can say, as far as getting hi res shots from the video. Here is a post I made in regards to the set as a whole from another forum:

" Ok. I bought the set today for $42 at Best Buy. I watched the first disc tonite and re-enjoyed the show in digital format. As a loyal fan of the show, Im glad it made it to DVD. But, as a loyal fan, I have a few gripes:

1. NO extras. Nadda. Zip. No commentary, interviews, special effects workshops, actor recognition, writer recognition, director recognition. Nothing. For 42 bucks, throw me something at me for christ's sake.

2. The box art is corny, definitely low res. Doesnt even feel SAAB. I was hoping that they would dress this package up a bit.

As a consumer, Im definitely pissed.

1. They used double sided discs! Who the HELL uses those anymore?

2. The discs are silver.......on both sides. There is NO disc art at all. But since they are double sided, this makes sense. Enough sense that I want to grind the teeth and gums of whoever was in charge of art for this set into cold concrete.

3. The box art is not SAABy, and the case art isnt much better. Bland text across the upper part of the case. The descripts of each ep on the back of each case is skimpy at best with no extra info, such as length, writer, actors, blah blah.

4. And 4. 4 pisses me off more than anything. On the menu screen OF EACH DISC, The Babylon 5 space station is shown instead of a ship actually seen in the show. This is a definite sign that whoever constructed the DVDs DID NOT care what they were doing.

That actually has me so pissed that Im going to learn how to reauthor menus and make my own set. I might be asking you for some help, Venj, knowing how good you are with video stuff. Im also going to design my own disc art and case sleeves too.

The REALLY bad thing is that the quality of the vid while viewing on my computer sucks. Bad. I dont know if its my setup or what, but it looks way better on my TV.

All in all, leave it to Fox to drop the ball on something that, as always, could have been great. Instead, it just, as usual, leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of the loyal fan. Except the one who is going to try to put the vids to good use.

Sounds like Im bitching, but Im still glad I bought the set. Guess its just the 'loyal fan' in me. :)

My local Best Buy probably wouldn't have ordered any in the first place to even be "sold out" of them... This town desperately needs a Circuit City or some other form of competition...

I might have to get this set if the price comes down a bit, though... might be worth watching the whole show...

Easy enough to rip with dvd-r region free firmware.

SR, Ive wanted this DVD set since I bought my first DVD player, back in 1998. I have most of the eps on VCD, which is nice, but not enough for someone that demands quality. Im heading to my local Best Buy tomorrow to get it, barring they have sold out, which would lead me to make a very violent, geeky scene. LOL!

The main reason I want them now is so that I can dissect the DVD into possible wallpapers, art, audio and video clips, and interactive Flash files. Now, Ill be able to do a true Show section of the website without having to use choppy low res pics and graphics. Ill make a post when Im finished that Show section.

As far as being available in the UK, Ive read that its only available in the US and Canada. :( For now.
